What does AzDAC do?

  • AzDAC Annual Legislative Agenda and Bill Fact sheets
Every year AzDAC voting members, vote on what disability related bills we will support or oppose for the upcoming AZ Legislative session. These bills or issues are then presented at our annual Legislative training event and related issue Fact Sheets are posted on our web site with a summary of the issues called our Legislative Agenda.

We welcome discussion from our Advisory members and other visiting members of the community.

Any organization can bring a disability related bill forward to AzDAC for consideration of support or opposition from our coalition.
  • Whatever organization brings a bill to AzDAC voting members to take on as an AzDAC issue, that organization must be willing to:
    • take the lead on advocacy for that issue
    • develop a Fact Sheet for the issue
    • keep AzDAC members posted on the issue’s progress
    • send out email advocacy alerts when action is needed.

Monthly Meetings:

  • We meet monthly to discuss advocacy issues and events that we are working on together. Anyone can attend our meetings in person or by teleconference.
  • Only AzDAC voting members can vote to support or oppose a bill.

Email Advocacy Alerts:
AzDAC distributes email advocacy alerts to member organizations throughout the legislative session on bill progress, relevant legislative committee hearings with suggestions for advocacy and upcoming public policy related events.

Legislative Training and Mentoring:

  • AzDAC organizational members have mentored each other to increase our effectiveness as advocates. We continue to learn from each other!
  • AzDAC has facilitated annual Legislative trainings prior to the e Legislative Awareness Day at the AZ State Capitol to inform citizens with disabilities and their families:
    • About the disability related issues AzDAC is supporting, or opposing that legislative session that will be addressed in that legislative session.
    • Offer mentoring, tools and tips for understanding the legislative process and becoming an active public policy advocate.

Legislators’ Voting Record Summary:
After each legislative session, AzDAC will post on our website a summary of each AZ Legislator’s voting record for the Legislative session. We hope citizens use this information when they go to the poles or attend district meetings with their legislators.
